Year of the Sheep 6

We saw these sheep in the Basilica of Sant’ Apollinare in Class (below) about 8km from Ravenna in northern Italy. The amazing mosaics date from the 6th century.

The sheep along the bottom of the photo are the “flock” of Saint Apollinaris, the first bishop of Ravenna, who is shown standing in their midst. The three sheep higher up in the picture represent three other saints.
