Push Comes to Shove

The nozzles at the rear of Space Shuttle Endeavour in yesterday’s entry, are the three Space Shuttle Main Engines (or SSME in NASA speak). Along with two solid fuel boosters, they help to power the shuttle into orbit. An SSME burns hydrogen and oxygen, produces more power than four Hoover Dams, and runs for just 8.5 minutes on each mission.
