Standing Stones

When we were in Rome earlier this year, we spotted most of the Eternal City’s ancient obelisks. There are over a dozen of them, dating from the Egyptian and Roman empires. Some are in prominent positions, while others are easily missed.

This one is hidden in the Pincio, the hill/park overlooking Piazza del Popolo. It was commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian and is rather appropriately located in Viale dell’Obelisco (Obelisk Street).
