A Raft of Cormorants

On the weekend we stumbled across this raft of Little Black Cormorants. There must have been about 500 of them, accompanied by a scattering of seagulls. The surprising thing is that we weren’t at some remote bird sanctuary – the cormorants were just on the Swan River in Mosman Park, Perth.

Incidentally, “raft” is the correct term for a bunch of water birds, though Perthites may describe these ones as a swag of shags.
