Today is the feast day of Saint Luke, the Evangelist and traditional writer of St Luke’s Gospel. That’s him above, at the Sanctuary of the Madonna of St Luke, on a hill overlooking Bologna. The bull/ox beside him is his symbol.
The St Luke image above is in the Italian town of Vercelli, on the Sanctuary of the Madonna of the Infirm. And the portal over the doorway of the church of St Tropime in Arles (below) shows the symbols of the four Evangelists – St Matthew is the man/angel, St Mark is the lion, and St John is the Eagle.
