Shooting Star

The great English astronomer Edmond Halley died on 14 Jan 1742. His tombstone (above) has been placed in a wall at Greenwich Observatory (below), though he is buried in a nearby churchyard. Halley was the second Astronomer Royal and calculated the orbit of Halley’s Comet, but didn’t live to see its next return to our night sky.
