What’s in a Name?

We stopped to photograph some of the town signs along the Great Southern Highway during our trip to Albany last month. They often describe the character of the town, or some historical connection – like miners heading for the goldfields from Broomehill, pushing their tools and belongings in a wheelbarrow.

But the tiny town of Popanyinning took a different tack, making fun of its long name. The locals just opt out and call it Popo (pronounced pop-oh).
