Road to Rouen

As well as Gustave Flaubert, who we featured yesterday, Joan of Arc is also associated with the French town of Rouen. She was taken there after being captured in 1430 and imprisoned in the castle. After a rather biased trial for heresy, she was burnt at the stake in 1431.

The site where she died is marked with a plaque, memorial and tall cross, in the old market square beside the modern Saint Joan of Arc Church.
