First Lady

As well as being Garibaldi’s birthday, yesterday was also the anniversary of Marie Curie’s death. The famous discoverer of Radium died on 4 July 1934. We saw her tomb in the crypt of the Pantheon (above) in Paris last year.

Marie achieved a lot of firsts – she was the first woman to receive a Nobel Prize, the first person to receive a Nobel Prize twice, the first female professor at the University of Paris, and the first woman to be entombed in the Pantheon in her own right.
