Ollie Woz ‘Ere

Another claim to fame for Ely in Cambridgeshire is the fact that Oliver Cromwell and his family lived there for 10 years. Cromwell was one of the most controversial figures in British history – a Puritan who turned soldier during the civil war, he ordered the beheading of King Charles I, and then became Lord Protector (basically king without the title) himself.

Oliver Cromwell’s house is still standing, and now houses a visitor information centre, gift shop and museum. Oliver and his wife greet visitors at the door.
