We noticed this statue of a sailor at Elizabeth Quay in Perth. It is by Charles Smith and Joan Walsh-Smith and will eventually be part of the Australian Sailor Monument in Fremantle, honouring all the men and women who have played a role in Australia’s maritime history.
Fans of sculpture get treated well in Perth. After Sculpture by the Sea and Sculpture at Bathers last month, they can now enjoy Melville Sculpture Walk 2015, which runs through to 12 April. We went along yesterday and liked the location – at Deep Water Point on the Canning River.
The sculpture at the top is “(This Axe) Devoid of Intent” by Paul Nagle, and the one immediately above is “Blooop” by Kathy Allam.
The sculpture below is “Wind Catcher” by Ross Mills. Those white sailcloth spirals spin around when the wind blows. More about the seagulls in the background tomorrow.
