Down to the Sea in Ships


We noticed this statue of a sailor at Elizabeth Quay in Perth. It is by Charles Smith and Joan Walsh-Smith and will eventually be part of the Australian Sailor Monument in Fremantle, honouring all the men and women who have played a role in Australia’s maritime history.

What’s Cooking?

As well as being Valentine’s Day, today is the anniversary of the death of Captain Cook. He sailed along the east coast of Australia in 1770, and was killed in Hawaii on 14 February 1779. This statue of the famous navigator is in Hyde Park, Sydney.
